Clerkship/Fellowship Opportunities

The Allegheny County Bar Association Summer Clerkship Program is a limited-duration summer employment opportunity where first-year law students that have demonstrated a commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession are provided with the opportunity to obtain summer employment with employers from law firms, corporate legal departments, non-profit organizations, governmental entities and legal service agencies. The ACBA encourages students with backgrounds that have been historically excluded from the practice of law to apply and participate. For more information, click here.

The Allegheny County Bar Foundation (ACBF) offers funded fellowships every summer made possible by members of the Allegheny County legal community to support students who are interested in pursuing careers in legal aid. The ACBF aims to promote the path of public interest as a viable career opportunity and level the playing field by offering resources and professional development to students from the very beginning. Diversity and Inclusion

The Allegheny County Bar Association is committed to advancing diversity and inclusion so that all members of the bar can fully participate in all aspects of the legal profession. The ACBA’s Diversity Initiative was first discussed in 2002 during a meeting of the ACBA’s Managing Partners Forum. Four task forces were assembled as part of this initiative. They included the Law Firm/Law Department Task Force, the Community Outreach Task Force, the Court and Government Agencies Task Force and the Law School Task Force. After achieving consensus on the major issues, in July 2004, the ACBA, the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University and over 40 local corporations, government agencies and law firms signed the Statement of Purpose, Principles and Objectives for the Diversity Initiative of the ACBA.

The ACBA’s Affinity Groups play a vital role in ensuring an inclusive environment where all members are valued, included and empowered to succeed. Those Affinity Groups include:
